COMPANY HISTORY

Metal Protection Service Pty Ltd, Tasmania’s leading industrial and commercial coatings contractor, was established over thirty years ago.  Our company has developed over this time into this position of leadership by providing a consistently high level of service and quality.

In 2000 an alliance was formed with McElligott Partners Pty Ltd, one of Australia’s leading industrial & commercial coating contractors.  This facilitated an increase in the range of services and equipment available to our clients.

Metal Protection Service and related divisions in regional Victoria and far north Queensland are ably supported by McElligott Partners head Office in Melbourne.  This enables our group to mobilise and operate throughout Australia.  We have established an enviable reputation for our work and hold current approval status with such significant organizations as:

Metal Protection Service is unique within our group.  In addition to our significant on site capabilities, we operate substantial yard and workshop facilities of world class standards.  In our workshops, both abrasive blasting and coating application is performed under controlled conditions.  Projects are able to be delivered on time and within budget to the highest quality standards independent of ambient weather conditions.  The workshops are supported by heavy handling capabilities to 70 tonnes in a single lift.  The chambers are capable of accepting items greater than thirty metres long, six metres high and five metres wide.  Recent contracts include 22 curved bridge girders for a Vic Roads project, and 90 wind turbine towers for various projects around Australia.

We believe in the philosophy and security of long-term maintenance programs, which provide a focus for all the projects ahead.  Our company also believes in the establishment of long term partnering agreements which provide all parties involved with the opportunity to develop a commitment to equity, trust and mutual goals critical to the success of the success of this type of agreement.  We believe that this concept provides the ability over time, based on an open relationship to promote added value, as knowledge of each party’s requirements and vision allows for the development of win-win strategies.  Further flexibility can develop as a long-term relationship builds the necessary trust and openness.

ENVIRONMENTAL

Metal Protection Service has put into place procedures which minimize the impact of our work on the environment.  The introduction of encapsulated systems, negative air pressure, containment and recycling of waste abrasive have improved environmental control as well as improved quality and safety on projects.

We have successfully completed projects in sensitive public environments as diverse as world heritage parks and busy city precincts.

We have also successfully completed projects in sensitive industrial environments where it is crucial to protect equipment, resources, personnel and production schedules for adverse impact.

As future environmental regulations unfold, we are well placed to conform to any requirements.  Legislation controlling the removal of hazardous materials, such a lead, coal tar derivatives, chromates and others are tightening with the passing of time.  Owners of the hazardous materials can no longer contract away the responsibility for their future storage.

As responsible and accredited contractors, on behalf of our clients, we are able to securely facilitate the removal and transfer of these materials to a safe and legal location for permanent isolation.

MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE & CULTURE

Metal Protection Service Pty Ltd has a hands-on approach, with management closely involved in the day to day operations. This philosophy of total involvement has enabled our management team to develop an appreciation for all aspects of a project. All our projects are managed by a full time Project Supervisor.  In addition, major projects are controlled by a full time Project Manager.

We have a high focus on safety and quality with full time managers responsible for both areas.  We have a stable, fully trained and experienced workforce providing ongoing continuity of personnel.  With an extensive resource base, including support equipment representing $3 million capital investment, the company has a policy of being self sufficient for the provision of equipment.  This ensures reliability and a competitive base to provide committed long-term service.  As a major contractor in the field of industrial maintenance painting, we are currently involved on a wide range of projects, based on our ability to deliver a quality project, safety, on time and on budget.

This commitment to management has provided efficient delivery of our projects.  Our management team deliver projects on time in all types of environments from the smallest road bridge to the largest energy asset.

THE FUTURE

Our Company is committed to the future.  We believed that the recipe for success is a well trained and equipped workforce, committed to producing a quality product in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.  This strategy has resulted in a large capital investment in new plant and equipment, review and training of our workforce and a continuing drive to improve all facets of our company through training and new technologies.

Metal Protection Service is committed to introducing new but proven technology into our projects.  We will continue to review new technologies and offer these to our clients where we believe it will be to their advantage, provided these technologies clearly demonstrate improved efficiencies, improved safety, quality and/or environmental management on the site.
